Things, 7 yrs, 7 months - first soccer game, and a little more

7 year, 7 months birthday was yesterday, but who's counting (remember when we counted by months? ha!)

Kid is in soccer now, and I'm the coach. He had his first game on Saturday.

8/21/21 - First soccer game

Score 3-3

The Kid scored 2 goals!

We were down 0-3 at halftime, but then the boy turned it on the second half and led us to a tie!

After he scored the first goal, he ran back and gave me a high five - and a parent snapped a photo of it. It's perhaps, the best photo I've ever seen in my life - the kid is so happy.

You can't see my face in the photo, but if you could, you'd see that I too, was happy, but mostly, relived, that at least we would not get shut out.

AND LATER

The other day at baseball clinic he was hitting well and told the guys running the clinic - "It feels good when you hit it."

That's true, and something we don't often express, but really, that about sums up most sports. Feels good when you hit something or kick something, or throw something in a basket. Seroiusly.

Things - 7 years, 3 months

A few notable things about the boy:

-Likes to say: "Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy" when he knows I'm sarcastic or joking.

-For his 1st grade (Zoom) class, wrote a list of reasons a story wasn't real. Included: "Because popcorn blizzards are not a thing."

-Listed his favorite things as:

1. Video Games

2. Mom and Dad

Upon spotting Grandma in the room, adds...

3. Family

4. Watermelon

Later says, "Mom and Dad and family should probably be at the top of that list. But do you know what my favorite thing to do is?"

Me: Play video games?

Him: No. Eat watermelon.

First School Board Meeting

 March 25th, 2021

Spoke in front (via Zoom) of the school board for the first time, to urge the schools to reopen. Turns out, all the school districts around us are reopening.

Boy and wife watched.

Boy whispered to wife as I was speaking: "When he's done, lets clap for him."

And they did.
